On the hill Čegar, near Niš, at the place where the famous Battle of the Serbian Uprising took place, there is a memorial built in memory of the brave soldiers and their commander, Stevan Sinđelić, who died on this site.
Today a monument in the shape of the tower - the symbol of Serbian military camp was built on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the liberation of Nis from the Ottoman Empire, on 1 June 1927. The original monument remained in the niche of the new one, above which the bronze bust of Stevan Sindjelic was placed in 1928.
