Saint Vasilije Ostroški was the bishop of Zahumlje and a Serbian Orthodox saint when the church celebrates on May 12, according to the Gregorian calendar (April 29, according to the Julian calendar).
Saint Vasilije Ostroški (Jovanović) was born in the village of Mrkonjići, Popovo Polje in Herzegovina, in the Republic of Srpska. When he grew up, he went to the Trebinje monastery of the Assumption of the Most Holy Mother of God and became a monk there.
