The baptism cloth in the Orthodox Church has an important symbolic role in the baptism ceremony. This cloth is usually placed over the baptismal font or near it and is used to receive the newly baptized child.
After the solemn rite begins, the priest will perform the rite of prayer and then immerse the child three times in the water in the baptismal font, while all the people present in the church silently pray and welcome the new member of the Christian community.
