He also came from Nazareth to the River Jordan to John, to receive baptism from him. And John considered himself unworthy of baptizing Jesus Christ and He began to prevent Him, saying, "You need me to baptize, and Do You come to Me?" But Jesus answered him, "Leave now," that is, do not stop me now, "for so we have to fulfill every justice" - to fulfill everything in the law of God and to show the example to people." Then John repented and baptized Jesus Christ. After the baptism, when Jesus Christ came out of the water, suddenly heavens opened above him and John saw the Spirit of God, who ascended to Jesus in the form of a pigeon, and heard the voice of God the Father from heaven: "This is My Son Beloved, who is according to My will." Then, at last, John was convinced that Jesus was the expected Messiah, the Son of God, the Savior of the world.
The baptism of Our Lord Jesus Christ is celebrated as one of the great holidays on January 6th (January 19th according to new calendar). The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord is also called the feast of the Epiphany, because during the baptism God revealed Himself to men, that He is the Holy Trinity, namely: God the Father spoke from heaven, the Son of God was baptized, and the Holy Spirit descended in form of a pigeon. And also in the baptism, the first time people were able to see that in the face of Jesus Christ appeared not only man, but at the same time God.
