One of our unjustly most prevalent rulers is certainly despot Đurađ Branković. Without a doubt, he is at the same time our most tragic and richest ruler whom we have ever had. He was born about 1375, and died in 1456. As a despot, he ruled Serbia from 1427 until his death. So, for almost 30 years. His father was famous Vuk Branković, and mother Mara daughter of Prince Lazar. His uncle, despot Stefan Lazarevic did not have his own children, and he appointed him as his successor.
What despot Đurađ differed from others in this cruel and disloyal time was his education and culture, from which arose his devotion to Orthodoxy.
