Stevan Sindjelic was a Serbian military commander in the First Serbian Uprising. He was killed in the battle of Cegar, by blowing up in the air the trench full of Turks. After this, around 16,000 Turks and 4,000 Serbs were dead on Cegar. After this death, the Nis pasha ordered the Serbs to cut all Serbian heads and take them to Nis. Skinners skinned their heads, handed it over to pasha, and he ordered that the Cela Kula be built. To this day, this monument to fallen defenders of Cegar is located in Nis and was turned into a memorial.
