The Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke was a physician and a friend of the Apostle Paul. He is believed to have been a Greek, a native of Antioch. Tradition claims that he was engaged in painting and that he was the first to paint icons of Jesus Christ, the Mother of God and the apostles Peter and Paul. The Serbian Orthodox Church celebrates this saint on October 31.
