Gusle - a single-stringed instrument used by the Slavic peoples in the Balkans and in the Dinarides region, often played with a bow and used to accompany epic poems or legends.
Gusle are made of mountain maple. At the top of the gusle is an ibex with twisted horns. On the front of the neck is a floral motif with petals, and on the back, a motif with roses and a stalk. A woodcut of the heraldic eagle Nemanjić on the bottom.
Gusle have a nylon string, and the bow has a horsetail string, and in that combination the fiddle gives the highest quality sound.

Gusle are lacquered with shellac varnish-natural resin dissolved in alcohol.
