Heraldic coat of arms of the holy dynasty of Nemanjić
Serbian rulers took the coat of arms of the double-headed eagle from Byzantium. Ana, the wife of Stefan Nemanja, the daughter of the Byzantine emperor Roman IV, "brought a white eagle to dowry in Serbia as a symbol of the emperor". In the time of Stefan the First-Crowned, a red double-headed eagle was used on a silver background, while in the time of Stefan Dušan, a color inversion occurred and a silver eagle appeared on a red background. During the 14th century, there were different variants of the coat of arms of Nemanjić - a silver double-headed eagle on a red background, and a red double-headed eagle on a silver background. In the end, the variant of the silver eagle on the red field was established, as opposed to the Byzantine black eagle on the golden field, and that variant is today considered the coat of arms of Nemanjić.
The coat of arms is made with engraved woodcut.
