The Sopocani Monastery, home of the Holy Trinity, was erected by King Stefan Uros I (1243–1276) not far from the source of the Raska River.
The monastery is located 17 km west of Novi Pazar. At this place, the source of the Serbian medieval state of Nemanjic, the third son of King Stefan the Firstborn left behind an endowment that by its size and beauty surpasses all former Serbian churches. The frescoes of the Sopocani Monastery are a true masterpiece of art, which brought world fame to the Sopocans many years later. Today, it is one of the most significant Serbian cultural monuments, which was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979 as part of the Middle Ages monuments united under the protected unit of Stari Ras and Sopocani.
