Koporin Monastery is located in the municipality of Velika Plana, in the valley of the Koporin stream. It is one of the most significant cultural and historical monuments from the period of Serbian medieval statehood. According to tradition, because of the uneven terrain, the monastery was originally buried on its north side in the hill, hence the name Koporin. The monastery complex consists of the church of St. Stephen, bell-ringers, shelters with guest rooms, stream of medicinal water, garden, fields, vineyards, forests ... From 1932 to 1958 it was a male monastery, and since then it has been a female monastery.
The endowment is the despot of Stefan Lazarevic, better known by the people as Stefan Visoki, son of Prince Lazar and Princess Milica, who lived from 1376 to 1427. In the absence of written and other evidence of the time of the erection of the monastery, the researchers used a cathedral portrait on the western wall of the church above the tomb, where Stefan was shown for the first time with signs of despotic dignity, a crown, a scepter and a scarf. By this it was concluded that it was erected after the famous Angora battle in 1402.
It has long been thought that the despot's tomb is at his greatest and most beautiful endowment to the Monastery of Manasija, but after many years of examining the authenticity of the bones found, it was determined that the relics of Stefan were in the Koporin church. The Koporin Monastery is considered a great shrine in the nation and is visited daily by individuals and groups.
