Holy Cross Day or the Raising of the Holy Cross is a church and national holiday celebrating the event when Emperor Constantine appointed a cross in Rome in honor of the victory over the Emperor Maximus. On this day two events are celebrated related to the Holy Cross of Christ: the first finding of the Holy Cross on Golgotha, and the second return of the Holy Cross from Persia to Jerusalem again. Holy Cross was found by Empress Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine the Great, when she was venerating the tomb of Christ in Jerusalem. The first rising of Holy Cross took place in 326 and since then the Holy Cross stood in a silver casket in the Temple of Christ's Resurrection that the Empress Helena raised on Golgotha.
