Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke was a physician and a friend of the Apostle Paul. Tradition claims that he made frescoes and painted the first icons of Christ, the Virgin Mary and the Apostles Peter and Paul. These icons are the model for all subsequent icons, which is why St. Luke is considered the founder of Christian iconography. The Christian tradition holds that Luke wrote the Holy Gospel of Luke - the third Gospel (in the order of the New Testament), and Acts of the Apostles.
Feast of the commemoration of St. Luke in the nation known as Lučindan is celebrated in many Serbian Orthodox families, and believers celebrate him as a healer and protector of some crafts. He is also respected as a protector of medicine and pharmacy, hospitals and pharmacies, doctors, pharmacists and patients.
