Saint Cosmas and Damian were doctors (healers), brazen and miraculous. The brothers were born somewhere in Asia, from the father non-believer and the mother Christian woman. The father died while they were children, and their mother raised them in the Christian spirit. They received a gift from the Lord for the healing of various diseases. As they received it for free, they treated people for free with the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, so people called them anargyroi (unselfish) men, which means free doctors. God gave them a commandment which reads: "Freely you have received, freely you give."
The Feast of Saint Cosmas and Damian (Vracevi) is celebrated on November 14th (November 1st according to the old calendar).
