Candlemas is always celebrated on the 40th day of Christmas and nothing is done on that day, and it is a memorial on the day when the Virgin first introduced the temple of the newborn Christ to dedicate it to God. It is the first encounter between God and man under the vaults of the temple of Jerusalem and the meeting of the newborn Messiah, whom the righteous elder, known as Saint Simeon the God-receiver, received in his arms. Candlemas is a holiday essential for Christianity, as it points to the first meeting of the Savior with people.
In our people, there is a belief that on Candlemas winter meets summer. If Candlemas dawns sunny day, and bears scared of their own shadow go back into hibernation, it is believed that the winter would last for another six weeks.
